Project 21 Composers

Mina Fan
Hometown: Beijing, China
Date of birth:
The love of music inspired Mina Fan to leave her country, China, for United States of America. She studied composition with Professor Luo Zhongrong at the China Conservatory, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music theory and composition in 2006. Upon graduation, she was named a Beijing City Merit Scholar, and she continues in conscientious study at OCU.

Her capstone composition, Symbol & Charm, was played at the China Concert Hall of the National Library. Two of her nursery rhymes were published by Shanghai Music Press in 2006. One film composition she arranged, The Reason, was published by China Youth Press in 2004 as well.

After her musical training in China, she wanted to further her study and refine her musical ability through graduate work. She is a recipient of the Margaret Petree Music Talent Scholarship. She has been a student of Dr. Edward Knight since fall of 2009.

A comprehensive understanding in both Chinese and western musical elements contributes Mina’s musical career. She believes the two different educational backgrounds merging within her will help her become a professional composer, fulfilling her dream of contributing to cultural communications between China and United States of America.
