A freshman at OCU, Joseph Craven is a percussionist who has been captivated by the possibilities of sound since his childhood. He has written several percussion ensembles and is expanding his experience to encompass a variety of instrumentation.

As a percussionist, Joseph has been influenced by composers such as Nebjosa Zivcovic, David Maslanka, and Keiko Abe. Other very important influences include Igor Stravinsky, Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schoenberg, Antonin Dvorak, Alban Berg, Bela Bartok, and many others. Joseph also finds inspiration in the philosophies of John Cage. It is this influence that inspires the freshman composer to broaden his scope and view music in a fresh new light.
