Hometown: Bogota, Colombia
Date of birth: 3/24/1988
Luis Felipe Nieto Sachica was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1988. His first approach to music was through the classical guitar, which inspired his desire to become a musician. During his early career as a guitar player, his studies under teachers such as Cezar Caicedo, from who he received invaluable instruction, were very important. Later on, he performed interpretations of brilliant pieces from composers like Astor Piazzola, Leo Brouwer and Heitor Villa-Lobos, which inspired his profound interest for music composition. Through his studies of these composers and others, Felipe Nieto began to explore the compositional field.
Finally in 2008, after being awarded a Music Talent Scholarship by the Wanda L. Bass Music School at Oklahoma City University, Felipe Nieto started his studies in Music Composition with Dr. Edward Knight. His pieces have been performed in several concert halls and important events such as the Project 21 concerts at OCU, the 2009 SCI regional Composers Conference and The 2009 Oklahoma City University Theory Conference. Felipe Nieto finds inspiration for his music from many different aspects of life, and often draws influences from other types of art, such as literature, dance, and visual art. In his music, he seeks balanced contrast and excitement for both the performer and himself. His music is not just rhythmically rich, due to his South American influences, but also very lyric and colorful. Major Completed Works
