Kristopher Maloy

Kris Maloy began his studies in music composition at Oklahoma City University, where he received a Bachelor of Music in Composition in 2000, graduating with highest honors. He received a Master of Music degree in composition from Bowling Green State University in 2002, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He has studied composition with Dan Welcher, Kevin Puts, Donald Grantham, Russell Pinkston, Marilyn Shrude, Edward Knight, and Mikel Kuehn.

An accomplished saxophonist in both the classical and jazz genres, Maloy was a featured soloist with the Oklahoma City University Orchestra in 1997 and received awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Jazz from the National Association of Jazz Educators in 1997 and again in 1999 for featured performances at the Wichita Jazz Festival. He was inducted into Phi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society in 1999. He has composed music in many styles and genres for orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber orchestra, solo instruments, and a wide array of chamber ensembles. His compositions have received recognition from the Society of Composers, Inc., the North American Saxophone Alliance, and the Cleveland Chamber Orchestra’s Young and Emerging Composers series. He is currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Adjunct Professor of Saxophone and Composition at Oklahoma City University.
