Ariel Lazrus

Date of birth: 2/18/1977
Ariel Lazarus was born in Israel, started composing and playing guitar at the age of 15 and later studied at the Hed college of music in Tel Aviv. In 2002 he entered OCU on a student exchange program, receiving his BM in guitar performance. He is curently compleeting his MM in composition at OCU.
In June 2004 his work "Gibraltar Suite" was premiered as part of the tricentenary celebrations of British Gibraltar. The work is based on the Sephardic traditional melodies that he learned from his grandfather, cantor Abraham Beniso. In January 2005 Lazarus released his debut CD "Keter Malchut" where he broght together 11 international musicians to bring to life the haunting sound world of Sephardic communities throughout the mediterranean. In June 2005 Lazarus will premiere a new work, along with selections from his CD, in Luebbecke, Germany, in the memory of his great grandfather and the local Jewish community.
