Project 21 Composers
David C. Janssen
Hometown: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Date of birth: 5/26/1982
David Janssen has been composing since his sophomore year in high school. He began studies with Dr. Edward Knight his senior year in high school, and completed 5 years of study with Dr. Knight. At the beginning of his studies, his compositions were largely inspired by the classical period. As he progressed he began to experiment with different sounds and genres in order to find his own voice. He is genuinely inspired by a wide range of composers, such as Varese and Bach. His music is diverse, ranging from bombastic bold gestures to choral-like textures. Typically, his music is drawn from philosophical or programmatic architectures which explore the various states of the human psyche. David is currently working on his MMC at the Manhattan School of Music. He has worked with Nils Vigiland, Giampaolo Bracali, J. Mark Stambaugh, and Richard Danielpour.
