Project 21 Composers
Joseph Belle
Hometown: Edmond, OK
Date of birth: 5/16/1989
At a young age, Joseph was enthralled by the possibilities of music. Not only through its aural implications but also its ability to change psychological states within the listener. Inspired by the sounds of the Romantic era, he began to compose works ranging in all sizes, albeit elementary in nature. Music, as he perceives it, is more than sound and emotion, but an existence. Now a junior at Oklahoma City University studying under Dr. Edward Knight, Joseph has further developed his philosophy of music and frequently incorporates it into his music. Some of his influences include Jean Sibelius, Ludwig van Beethoven, Einojuhani Rautavaara, & Iannis Xenakis. Beyond the music of the West, Joseph finds himself drawn to ethnic music, especially that of Japan in the form of the shakuhachi flute, and of Tibet in the form of Lamaistic chant and traditional instruments thereof. Upon graduation, he plans to attend a postgraduate college in composition to further his abilities and continue his passion.
