Kasia Brochocka


The works of Katarzyna Brochocka (b. 1982) have been performed in Poland, Germany, Romania and United States. She has had commissions from and performances by State Philharmonic Orchestra in Olsztyn, International Academy of Marimba (Wrocław, Poland), National Chamber Piano Competition for children (Jelenia Góra, Poland). As a composer, Katarzyna has also cooperated with: Jan Kochanowski’s Dramatic Theater in Opole, “Cisza” Theater and “Studio” Theater in Warsaw as well as the State School of Drama in Wrocław. In the 2007/2008 season her orchestral pieces were presented by the State Philharmonics of Wałbrzych, Wrocław, Olsztyn and Kalisz (Poland). Katarzyna received invitations to premiere her works at several international contemporary music festivals, such as: “Musik Unser Zeit” in Münster (Germany) and “Ryszard Bukowski’s Days of Music” in Wrocław (Poland). In 2007 her Sonata for Double Bass and Piano had its world premiere during the International Society of Bassists Convention at the Oklahoma City University. This piece has also been published by Jacek Drążkowski (Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland). In addition, Katarzyna recently received the Cultural Award of Regional Committee in Lidzbark Warmiński as well as scholarship from the Wanda L. Bass School of Music of Oklahoma City University, where since the spring of 2008 she has been a graduate composition student of Dr. Edward Knight. In 2007 she completed her Master Degree of Art with Distinction at the Karol Lipiński’s Academy of Music in Wrocław in the composition studio of Prof. Jan Antoni Wichrowski. During the academic year 2005/2006 she was a recipient of the European Scholarship “Socrates-Erasmus,” studying with Prof. Doina Rotaru at the Music University in Bucharest (Romania). Recently she has won the Grand Prize in chamber division of 2008 David Walter/ISB International Composition Competition.
